11:00 Barbara Kingery, Laurel Harper, Mary Cameron, and John Lewis from the South Central Mental Health Center met with Commissioners to discuss the Stepping Up Initiative to reduce the number of people with mental illness in jails. Commissioners are concerned that this is a bigger regional issue and that Carbon County may not have the resources to implement the NACo program alone. Commissioners will work with County Attorney and Sheriff to determine the approximate number of people with mental illness that are being jailed and continue to look at jail alternatives for those people with mental illness. Mental Health Center will look at the Initiative and see if there are parts that could be implemented in South Central Montana.
