Carbon County has a rich cultural history that is worthy of protection. It is the mission of the Preservation Officer and the Historic Preservation Commission to identify, document, and protect historic and archaeological resources throughout the county, assist local governments with the execution of their respective preservation ordinances, and provide education and outreach to the public.

Historic Preservation Commission

The board consists of eight members – three appointed by the Carbon County Commissioners, and one appointed by the governing body of each incorporated city or town in the county. Term length is two years.

Commissioner Meeting time and location varies in order to facilitate greater community involvement in rural areas of the county. See the posted agenda for each meeting to find the location.
