COMMISSIONERS’ PROCEEDINGS

Commissioners Doug Tucker, John Grewell, and John Prinkki were present.

8:30 Pledge of Allegence

8:35 Natalie Evanson Silver Run Ski Team met with Commissioners to request permission to use Court House lawn for non-profit fundraiser bean bag toss. Commissioner Grewell moved to accept lawn rental agreement subject to receiving proof of liability insurance; Commissioner Tucker seconded; motion carried.

Commissioners received a letter of resignation from Margaret Schwend for her position on the Library Board.

Commissioners signed a letter of support for the Old Roosevelt Revitalization project.

Commissioner Tucker moved to approve April 11 and 14 minutes as presented; Commissioner Grewell seconded; motion carried.

9:00 Commissioners discussed salary increases for non-elected/deputy employees; a decision was tabled until after Union Negotiations.

Road and Bridge Superintendent David Ohnstad and Accounts Payable Clerk Christine Stovall met with Commissioners to discuss the Road and Bridge Budget. Discussed tracking equipment maintenance. David also gave the Commissioners an update on Road Crew activities for the week.

10:00 Annette and Richard Anderson joined the meeting. The Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, & Parks has not yet finalized the Agreement for Dust Control at Cooney State Park; the Agreement will be placed on the agenda when it is finalized.

1:00 Airport board meeting.

2:00 Sheriff Josh McQuillan met with Commissioners to review preliminary budget for Public Safety Fund.

2:30 DES Coord. / GIS Mgr. Tom Kohley joined the meeting to discuss the 911, Communications, and DES preliminary budgets.

3:30 Commissioners adjourned until the Public Hearing at 7:00pm.

7:00 Public Hearing – Resolution of Intent to Order Referendum to Create Carbon County Cemetery District No. 8 – Red Lodge Commissioners John Prinkki and John Grewell were present. Dan Gainer, Burt Douthit, Bety Grewell, Mike Schoeniki,

 

Maryvette Labrie, Peter Italiano, Corey Thompson, Mary Cameron, Diane Dimich, Polly Richter, and Carbon County News Reporter Elenore Guerrero were in attendance. Commissioners noted that the final Taxable Value for the district has not been finalized and is based on an estimate. The meeting was opened for public comment. Dan Gainer gave an overview of the maintenance budget for the Cemetery. He also noted that the boundaries of the proposed district consisted of precincts 8, 9, and 10 which include the incorporated areas of the City of Red Lodge, and precinct 11 which is immediately surrounds Red Lodge. Commissioner Grewell moved, subject to the production of a final taxable value and subsequent mill levy proposal, to adopt a resolution of intent to order a referendum for the creation of the Cemetery District; Commissioner Prinkki seconded; motion carried. It was clarified that notice letters and the protest period would commence when the Resolution of Intent was adopted. Burt asked for clarification as to when the notice to landowners needs to be sent. Peter noted Council has discussed paying for the cost of mailing the notices and for the election.
